Young Stalin won the Biography of the Year Prize in the Costa Book Awards 2007. The judges described it as "Everything you could ask for from a biography - exhaustive research, a compelling subject and a beautifully written narrative that will endure as a portrait of one of the towering figures of modern history." In addition Miramax Films and Ruby Films, in a co-production with FilmFour, are to make a movie of Young Stalin. Alison Owen (Elizabeth and the forthcoming The Other Boleyn Girl) of Ruby Films is the producer, Pawel Pawlikowski (My Summer of Love) is to direct and John Hodge (Trainspotting, Shallowgrave and The Beach) is the screenwriter.
Simon Sebag Montefiore has also just been awarded the Bruno Kreisky Prize (Vienna) for Political Literature for Young Stalin.
